Sometimes I tend to do that at practice,” Franco said. His Globetrotter-like ball toss in Wednesday night’s 8-1 win over Pittsburgh has been viewed more than 5 million times. Wander Samuel Franco has more than obliged. Their father, another ex-pro named Wander Franco, kept naming his sons after him in hopes that a Wander Franco would make the big leagues. It is baseball’s preeminent magician, regularly pulling a rabbit out of a bargain-bin hat. We can fantasize about what the Rays front office would do if it had a Steinbrenner bankroll to play with. In the funny-money baseball world, the Yankees re-signed Aaron Judge for $40 million. His three-year, $40 million contract was the biggest free-agent deal in Rays history. The Rays hadn’t made any splashy off-season moves, other than signing pitcher Zach Eflin. Of ESPN’s 28-member preseason panel of “experts,” only one predicted Tampa Bay would win its division. If a new place isn’t built by then, the Rays might bolt for Nashville or Montreal or Timbuktu.Īll this has produced a perpetual image problem that makes it easy to discount the on-field product. The team and local officials have been negotiating over a new stadium seemingly since 1901. What they don’t have is fan support (currently 25 th in the league) or a decent place to play. Rays still cannot draw fans to Tropicana Field They crunch analytics, scour other teams for undervalued players, have a bountiful farm system and are led by one of baseball’s top managers in Kevin Cash. The Rays have always had payrolls closer to the 1901 Yankees, yet they’ve been a consistent contender for the past 15 years. That’s approximately $205 million more than Tampa Bay is shelling out, though the discrepancy is nothing new. He’s the manager of the Yankees and their $279 million payroll. “They’re playing like the best team in the league right now,” Aaron Boone said. Their 26-6 start going into the weekend was the second best, trailing only the 1984 Tigers.Īt that pace, Tampa would go 131-31 and probably clinch the AL East by next Thursday. The Rays’ 23 wins before May 1 st was two more than any team in baseball's modern era (since 1901). Tampa Bay, with the third-lowest payroll, is running historic rings around the highfalutin Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Angels and MLB record book. We’re here to marvel at the latest magic trick being pulled off by the most underappreciated franchise in sports. Though God knows, Tampa Bay tries.īut we’re not here to bash Tampa Bay area fans for decades of treating Tropicana Field as if it’s Chernobyl. The last team with such a larger run differential through 32 games was the 1901 Pirates. Just a few of my favourites: most are arranged/orchestral tracks from the 8/16 bit era, except for the last couple. I also have very fond memories of the music from Command & Conquer and Red Alert. Contains the soundtracks for Rondo of Blood and Bloodlines. Back in the day I used to really enjoy throwing on the Redbook Audio from the SegaCD version of Ecco the Dolphin for some relaxing stuff, or from the CDs for Descent II or Quake II when rage was more appropriate. Contains the soundtrack for Kid Dracula and one Castlevania track from Wai Wai World 2. I’m a massive fan of the soundtracks for both the Mirror’s Edge games, though I can’t stand the games themselves. Bravely Default’s music is absolutely stunning, I was really disappointed that they didn’t get Revo back for the sequel. The stuff that Hideki Naganuma did for the Jet Set Radio games is fantastic, not so much the rest of it. Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross are excellent. Obviously the classic FF games stand out. Its Japanese title is Vampire Killer, and its American title is Castlevania: Bloodlines, and the European and Australian versions are called Castlevania: The New Generation. It was developed and published by Konami. Gust’s sound team are excellent as well, especially the Ar Tonelico stuff, but some of the Atelier games nail it too. Castlevania: Bloodlines is the only Castlevania video game that was released on the Sega Genesis. Even obscure old shooters like Star Trader. I don’t think they’ve ever made a game that didn’t have a great soundtrack, it’s their one constant. Ys in particular has some of the best boss battle music out there, but the Trails games have some moments too. Nihon Falcom has some amazing soundtracks, right back into the early 80s. What are we talking here? Just any music, or licensed tracks? That’s a pretty huge question if the former. It's entirely dependent on us viewing the characters as "me." I am Joel. The entire emotional core of the story hinges upon the special bond forged between player and player character - a bond which is not typically present in other media where the story is merely told to you rather than experienced as an active participant. Very few stories have ever impacted me the way TLOU2 has - in any medium, not just video games.Īnd, unlike a lot of people, I think this is a story that only works as a video game, and it only works as a sequel. Jerry and Marlene did not ask for Ellie's permission and were perfectly happy to operate on an unconscious girl against her consent. Marlene then refused to let him make peace with Ellie before the surgery and ordered a soldier to march him out at gunpoint under threat of death. These weapons were originally his and Tess's and had been stolen by Robert and then requisitioned by the Fireflies. Marlene and by extension, the Fireflies, broke their promise to Joel by not giving him the weapons he had agreed to smuggle Ellie for. Joel's decision being made by the above retcons to seem entirely selfish and evil. Also why did ND change his race from black to white? Did they think we wouldn't care about him if he was black or was so that Abby wouldn't be a black character that antagonised the player and suffered over the course of the game? Jerry was a tired surgeon in a dingy, run down operating room not an immaculate professional in a pristine state of the art hospital. The Fireflies were a militia, not charitable do-gooders. Abby leaving Ellie and Dina alive AGAIN is a cause for serious concern over her mental faculties. Abby leaving Ellie and Tommy alive is laughable. Tommy offering his and Joel's names to a stranger is ridiculous. Characters teleporting over the map, characters losing all common sense. That last story detail was retconned in Part 2. She also knew Joel was lying at the end of the first game. In Tlou1, she was hopeful and cared deeply for Joel. They manipulated game footage by aging up Joel in flashback custcenes to make us believe he would have a bigger part in the story, replacing Jesse with Joel in a particular cutscene and neglecting to mention that there would be a new playable character.Įllie's character and personality was drastically different, beyond the bounds of reasonable development. Trust that we'll do right by them." I don't think he did. A quote by Neil Druckmann - "we really wanted to honour "blank" and "blank". I was fully prepared for the "death" but the execution (forgive the pun) was disrespectful. This is a stupid reason which some people do use and shouldn't even be considered a valid argument. This is just my opinion of course, I know I’ll get downvoted but I thought I’d share because it’s just a echo chamber in here saying this game is perfection. I really do like subversion and darkness in my stories but this is a poor attempt at that in all honesty. I can write a whole paper on how this was doomed to fail just by the prospect of there even being a sequel but they took it even further and disappointed me a lot. They took a risk with the format (which I commend and support in storytelling), but not every risk pays off and In my opinion they missed the mark heavily. It sours the whole experience when a narrative and character driven game lacks a well executed story and nuanced characters. It had the potential to be great but is watered down by poor choices in character motivations/story direction and pacing. I love how it looks and the gameplay is good but I expected more innovation after 7 years. These are my biggest complaints which I can elaborate exceedingly further on but I digress. If this wasn’t a Last Of Us game it would get nowhere near the accolades it’s gotten. When I initially beat the game I liked the whole thing but the more I thought about it I liked it less and realized I was just trying to compensate for my love for the first game and the story and characters are extremely flawed. I think the way the story was paced and written was awful. I like Abby as a character and the idea of telling half the story from her perspective. Here is some new ones then: I liked the death and i knew it was inevitable with a part 2. and after about 2 hours of monkeying around, I discovered that this experience just isn’t for me… Ancestors The Humankind Odyssey is a survival game where you start as a male, female, or random character thrown into the jungle… and I actually got assassins creed vibes right from the jump. so I hopped into ancestors with excitement and intrigue… excited to create a new lineage of primates, go through the struggles, the trials and tribulations of becoming human. … ExpandĪncestors The Humankind Odyessey Not really a game for me If you’ve been around long enough you know that assassins creed is my favorite Ancestors The Humankind Odyessey Not really a game for me If you’ve been around long enough you know that assassins creed is my favorite gaming series of all time, so when I found at the the creator of my favorite series is making a new game, I couldn’t not play it. Then it is surely worth it if you like games like spore. If you are okay with some tedium in your games. As you start to get attached to your apes and really care about their fate. It does a poor job of telling you what your goal is. What the game doesn't tell you is that in order to evolve you must complete evolution objectives(Like kill every predator) that advance years in the game once you pass generations. Once you figure out how its systems work, it is a very rewarding if not tedious game. The game is mostly about discovery as it does not tell you exactly how to do most things, some of which you need in order to survive. The survival mechanics are also very well developed, it took me awhile to figure out how to eat a coconut instead of just drinking it. The climbing mechanics are almost spot on, very similar to assassins creed. It has you playing as a group of apes that eventually evolves to become human.
