Lutz-Craver is active with the PTO at her children’s schools.ĭr. They have three children, Joe, Rowan, and Aveleigh keeping them on their toes. Lutz-Craver and her husband Newton have resided in Shelby since their marriage in 2003. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1999 and completed her Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 2003 also at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.ĭr. Kendalyn Lutz-Craver is a 1996 graduate of Shelby High School. She is currently serving on the Cleveland County Board of Health and enjoys participating in community outreach whether it be educating children at local preschools or volunteering at local Missions of Mercy Clinics.ĭr. Karner is proud to be a part of the Junior Charity League of Shelby where she is able to help serve her community with a special emphasis on clothing children in Cleveland County. She remains active in organized dentistry by maintaining membership in her local Isothermal Dental Society serving as Secretary, North Carolina Dental Society, Academy of General Dentistry, American Dental Association and as a Fellow with the International Dental Implant Association.ĭr. Arun Garg and has traveled with his team to the Dominican Republic providing free dental implant and surgical services to those patients in need. She has completed dental implant placement and surgical training under Dr. Frank Spear as well as with the CEREC faculty has allowed her to provide her patients with comprehensive, reliable oral health care with the most up to date techniques and equipment. Karner sets aside specific time throughout the year for her continuing education as a means to keep up with the many advances in dentistry, procedural and technological, by attending the astute Scottsdale Center for Dentistry. Upon graduation, she attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for her Doctorate of Dental Surgery.ĭr. She graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biological Sciences. She and her husband, Kevin, are so thrilled to be able to call Cleveland County their home and raise their sons, Pierce and Grey in such a friendly community. Dentists can also prescribe medications such as antibiotics, fluorides, pain killers, local anesthetics, sedatives/hypnotics and any other medications that serve in the treatment of the various conditions that arise in the head and neck.Dr. Additionally, dentists can further engage in oral surgery procedures such as dental implant placement. Services provided by a Dentist: By nature of their general training, a licensed dentist can carry out most dental treatments such as tooth whitening, filling and restorative (like dental implants, crowns, bridges), orthodontics (braces), prosthodontic (dentures, crown/bridge), endodontic (root canal) therapy, periodontal (gum) therapy, and oral surgery (extraction of teeth), as well as performing examinations, taking radiographs (x-rays) and diagnosis. Additional post-graduate training is required to become a dental specialist. State licensing boards accept either degree as equivalent, and both degrees allow licensed individuals to practice the same scope of general dentistry. Generally, three or more years of undergraduate education plus four years of dental school is required to graduate and become a general dentist. Both degrees use the same curriculum requirements set by the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation. Universities have the prerogative to determine what degree is awarded. There is no difference between the two degrees: dentists who have a DMD or DDS (both have same education). Dentist: A dentist is a person who is qualified as a doctorate in dental surgery (D.D.S.) or dental medicine (D.M.D.), licensed by the state to practice dentistry, and practicing within the scope of that license.
